Discussions 

The Discussions tool is a collaboration area to post, read and reply to threads on different topics, share thoughts about course materials, ask questions, share files, or work with your peers on assignments and homework within your program.

Accessing Discussions

To access the Discussion tool, use the Communication link on the navbar and choose Discussions.

  • Your instructor may place a link to discussions in a learning module in Content. Regardless of which way you access the discussion (Discussion tool or Content), both places will allow you to read, post, and reply to messages.

 

Reading Messages in Discussions

The number of threads and posts in a topic are listed on the right side the topic view. In order to open a topic to read the replies, you need to click on the name of the topic you wish to read.

 

Posting a Thread (Message) in a Forum

To post a message to a discussion topic, select the Weekly Module in the Forum list. The Compose screen appears, where you can enter your discussion text. It is strongly suggested you type your text in a separate text editing program (like Microsoft Word or Notepad) and copy and paste into the discussion thread if you are typing more than a couple of sentences. This prevents your work from getting lost if you experience any inconsistencies with your internet connection.

Tip: By the time you finish the Let's Start section you will be able to navigate within the Learning Platform easily and effectively. You will be able to create a discussion post in the Q&A section and learn how to submit assignments to your Business Advisors.

To practice posting to a discussion, either click this link: Practice Discussion Topic, or use the navbar to navigate to the Practice Discussion Topic.

For the purposes of this activity, pretend you are introducing yourself to your class and type a few lines. Do not post anything that you would feel uncomfortable sharing in a public forum. This is for fun, but please ensure your postings are acceptable to a professional environment as many other participants in this Orientation Course will also see your practice post.

Be aware that it not being actively monitored for interaction by a facilitator.
